Club History

The Club was set up originally as Spearwood AUSSI in 1986 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2006.

In 2008, the Club has introduced some significant changes - the main one being a change of name to Cockburn Masters.

Cockburn Masters more accurately reflects the geographical location of most of our members and the places where we generally swim (South Lake Leisure Centre and Coogee Beach), all within the City of Cockburn. It also now refers to Masters Swimming as an affiliation, which itself used to be known until recently as AUSSI Masters Swimming.

Our Club relies on support from its membership base and is a non-profit registered association which is guided by an Executive Committee. Over the years there have been many different members and we currently have over 30 current members.

The Club itself started from humble beginnings with a handful of members and with sessions held at the old Spearwood Pool in Barrington St . When this pool was sold to a developer and demolished in 2002, we moved to South Lake Leisure Centre and have been based there since. We also swim regularly at Coogee Beach.
